Import of cars

KARACHI, May 23: MNA Malik Niaz Ahmad Jakhar, chairman National Assembly Standing Committee on Production, on Tuesday said that the permission to import used cars was a temporary measure to meet the demand and supply gap which was now closing as the local industry had increased its capacity.

He reiterated that there was a need to encourage local car production by creating conducive environment to boost the confidence of the auto industry and its vendors.

In a meeting with Indus Motors Company (IMC), he said that the committee recommended that the auto industry may be given further protection. A long-term policy and restriction on imports of used car is necessary, says a press release of the IMC.
