LAHORE, May 24: Top stars will miss the start of the joint conditioning camp of Pakistan and ‘A’ teams at the Qadhafi Stadium from Thursday.
Ten top players of the senior squad, including captain Inzamamul Haq, are in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to play a two-match exhibition series against an Asian XI. These players are expected to join the camp on Sunday (May 28).
Shahid Afridi, Rana Navedul Hasan and Mohammad Asif, all members of the senior team, have been exempted from the camp since they are busy playing in the English county cricket.
In addition, various probables of ‘A’ team are also playing league cricket in England.
Pakistan will play four Tests and five One-day International on the England tour which begins from June 25.
Pakistan ‘A’ are scheduled to leave for Australia in July for a series of matches against ‘A’ teams of India, New Zealand and Australia.
The national selection committee had summoned 21 probables for the Pakistan camp and another 29 for the ‘A’ team.
Among prominent seniors players already in Lahore are Shoaib Akhtar, Shoaib Malik, Asim Kamal, Zulqarnain Haider and Taufiq Umar.
National coach Bob Woolmer will join the camp from May 30.
Pakistan team will be announced on June 9 and will attend the training camp in the second phase from June 12.
