HYDERABAD, June 1: On a call of the Sindh Qaumi Ittehad, rallies were held in district headquarters on Thursday in protest against disappearance of activists of nationalist parties.
In Hyderabad, a big rally was held outside the press club which was addressed by leaders of the SQI.
They alleged that activists of the nationalist parties had been “kidnapped” by state agencies and were being held incommunicado.
They warned that if Dr Safdar Sarki, Akash Mallah, Nawaz Zour, Muzaffar Bhutto and Manjhi Chandio were not released, the government would be held responsible for consequences.
SQI acting chairman Gul Mohammad Jakhrani said that nationalist leaders were not afraid of going to jail.
He said that they would continue struggle for the emancipation of Sindhi people.
He said that JSMM leader Samiullah Kalhoro had been murdered while other leaders had been kidnapped and their whereabouts were being not disclosed.
He said that if nationalist leaders were not released, the scope of protest would be enlarged.
JSQM chairman Basheer Qureshi said that an unannounced operation had been launched against activists of the nationalist parties.
He said that the leaders were arrested months back but their whereabouts had not been made public.
He said that the arrests were flagrant violation of human rights.
He said that dictators wanted to take over possession of resources of Sindh for the benefit of Punjab.
He said that nationalist leaders were arrested with a view to levelling ground for the construction of Kalabagh dam and other anti-Sindh projects.
Sindh Taraqi Passand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi said that the nationalist leaders were arrested because they were fighting for the rights of Sindh and Sindhis.
He condemned state terrorism and said that the nationalist parties would continue the struggle to save lives of nationalist leaders.
He demanded that the detained leaders should be produced before relevant courts.
Jeay Sindh Mahaz chairman Khaliq Junejo said that it was the duty of the state to protect life and liberty of people but the government itself was kidnapping people and holding them as hostage.
He said that if JSQM general secretary Safdar Sarki had not been arrested, then his disappearance was reflective of the inefficiency of the government.
He demanded that arrested leaders should be produced in relevant courts.
Sindh National Council leader Hussain Bux Thebo, JSMM leader Saeed Hakro, JSM-Z leader Yousuf Sarang, SNF leader Ayoub Shar and Punhal Sario also spoke on the occasion.
LARKANA: Workers of component parties of the Sindh Qaumi Ittehad held a rally here on Thursday in protest against arrest of nationalist activists.
The protesters carried banners and flags.
SQI leaders Latif Bughio, Gulzar Soomro and Muzaffar Sandano led the protesters.
The protesters staged a sit-in on the Shaikh Zayed Colony chowk and blocked the road for one hour.
They chanted slogans against disappearance of alliance’s leaders.
They marched on the main roads of the city and assembled at the Pakistan chowk.
SQI leaders said that the government had detained Dr Safdar Sarki, Nawaz Zaour, Sattar Hakro, Manjhi Chandio, Sikandar Chandio, Akhash Malah and Muzafar Bhutto without any charges.
They said that the activists had been kept at unknown places and were being tortured.
They demanded that the government should release them and if wanted in any case they should be produced in courts.
They said that the government should take notice of protests because the situation could take other turn.
KHAIRPUR: Activists of the Sindh Qaumi Ittehad took out a procession from Mariam Toup here on Thursday.
Amjad Mahessar and Kamran Durrani led the protesters.
The protesters marched for two kilometres and after passing through the main thoroughfares, they held a demonstration at Panj Gulla chowk.
Leaders of the SQI criticised Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim for not raising objection before the federal government which had allocated funds for the Kalabagh dam.
DADU: Activists of the Sindh Qaumi Ittehad took out a procession in the city.
They marched on various roads and streets of the town and held demonstration outside the Dadu press club.
Sindh Qaumi Ittehad leaders Mohammad Khan Channo, Ghulam Qadir Leghari and Imam Bux Panhwar led the protesters.
They demanded that proposed construction of Kalabagh, Bhasha and other dams on the Indus river should be stopped and detained JSQM leaders and other nationalist leaders should be released.
SHIKARPUR: Activists of the SQI took out a procession and held demonstration in the city.
SQI leaders Imdad Veesar and Lala Aslam led the protesters.
The procession started from the residence of Shaheed Qayoom Mangi on the Qila Kafla road.
The protesters marched on different city roads reached at Lakhi gate where protesters held a demonstration for half an hour.
JSQM district president Imdad Ali Veessar, Naseer Mangi, Agha Qamar Mushwani, Lala Aslam and Jabal Shah condemned the detention of nationalist leaders.
They demanded that the government should release Dr Safdar Sarki, Akash Mallah and Manjhi Chandio, Nawaz Zour and Muzaffar Bhutto. Add/SQI
BADIN: Activists of the Sindh Qaumi Ittehad took out a procession in protest against detention of nationalists activists.
Hamid Ali Bhurgari led the protesters.
The procession started from Qatar mosque and after marching on various roads reached the press club.
The activists raised slogans against the government.
SQI leaders said that injustices were being meted out against the people of Sindh since the creation of Pakistan.
They said that every person of the province was victim of the government.
They expressed concern over the attitude of the federal government regarding construction of dams on the Indus river.
They said that if any anti-Sindh project was implemented, its consequences would be dangerous.
