NAWABSHAH, June 5: The Pakistan Railways has increased the reservation quota for the Nawabshah Railway Station. Zila Nazim Ms Faryal Talpur wrote a letter to railways officials, requesting to increase the quota as passengers travelling from Nawabshah were suffering from shortage of reservations.
Nineteen berths and seven seats were increased after curtailing the quota of Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur. The reservation quota would be available to passengers from June 20.
FARMERS’ DEMO: Tail-end growers of Shah Hussain minor staged a demonstration in front of the Nusrat irrigation division office against shortage of water here on Monday.
Protesters led by Khan Mohammad Khokhar, Ashfaq Gupchhani and Riaz Gupchhani were carrying the Holy Quran and raising slogans for water.
Later, they staged a sit-in in front of the press club and blocked the road.
They told reporters that there was an acute shortage of water in the minor for three months, which hit 3,000 acres of agricultural land.
The protesters accused the irrigation division of selling water to the influential landlords of the area. They said officials of the division were demanding money from tail-end growers for water.
Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully when executive engineer of the irrigation division reached the spot and assured them to provide water.
KILLED: One person was killed over matrimonial dispute at the Hussaini road here on Monday.
Six people attacked Munawar Ali Rangrez, 22, with knives injuring him seriously. He was brought to the Peoples Medical College Hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
An FIR was lodged with the B-section police against Saleem, Hanif, Hafeez, Aslam, Anwar and Majeed. Police arrested five accused, excluding Majeed.
RAID: The Nawabshah police raided several places on Sunday and arrested three persons for running illegal lottery schemes.
Meanwhile, the district coordination officer has asked police to ban different car and motorcycle lottery schemes being run in the city.
In a letter addressed to the district police officer, the DCO said the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit, had ordered him to ensure measures to check and avoid incidents of fraud.
DCO Ahmed Bux Khokhar also requested to publicise the ban by establishment of a cell for victims of fraud and cheating.
The orders were issued after Abad Ali Chaudhry, resident of Nawabshah, filed a constitutional petition in the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit, against dozens of lottery schemes of cars, motorcycles, deep freezers and other valuable items.
Meanwhile, A-section police Nawabshah SHO Ghulam Nabi Kharal raided different places of the city on Sunday night and arrested many people running lottery schemes.
When contacted A-section police on Monday, ASI Mohammad Siddique informed that the SHO had warned and released the persons.
RALLY: Activists of the Islami Jamiat-i-Tulaba Nawabshah took out a rally on Monday against the government for what they said flourishing secularism and copy culture in educational institutions. The rally started from the Jamat-i-Islami office and terminated at the local press club.
Speaking on the occasion, city nazim Abdul Wahab criticized the government and said the government was omitting Quranic verses from syllabi to appease the United States.
