HYDERABAD, June 7: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that elected representatives of the people, government officials, businessmen and the masses will have to make joint efforts for the development of the Hyderabad district.
Speaking at a ceremony in connection with laying of sewers and uplift of the Qadamgah Moula Ali road here on Wednesday, he said increase in population had rendered the sewerage lines laid in 1969 useless.
He said it was due to the collapse of the sewerage system that the city taluka was facing not only the problem of overflowing sewage, but the dirty water also mixed with potable water and created serious health problems.
He said the district government had decided to replace the entire sewerage system of the city taluka on priority.
Giving details about the projects, Kanwar Naveed Jamil said 8,550-foot new sewerage line from Hajiani Hospital to Bacha Khan chowk would be completed within 12 months at a cost of Rs75 million. After it, asphalt concrete road would be constructed, he added.
He said, pumping stations had been connected with dual power lines and generators to ensure regular supply of drinking water and disposal of sewage.
Later, the district nazim also laid the foundation stone of a primary school in Sheedi Goth Qasimabad taluka which would cost Rs2 million.
Speaking on the occasion, Kanwar Naveed Jamil reiterated that in addition to the construction of new schools, 200 shelter-less schools would be provided buildings.
SEALED: The office of the Zafar Housing Scheme has been sealed.
The Hyderabad Development Authority announced here on Wednesday that the office had been sealed, as it had started booking of space without seeking approval that is mandatory.
A spokesman for the building control department said the Zafar Housing scheme located on the National Highway, Hala Road, had been served with notices on more than one occasion to refrain from illegal booking of space, but the people concerned had not responded.
He has advised the general public to contact the building control department before investing in any scheme to ensure that the builders were in possession of legal NOC.
LUH: The newly-appointed board of governors of the Liaquat University Hospital Hyderabad/Jamshoro at its second meeting held here on Tuesday discussed in detail the formulation of rules and regulations for the appointment of officers and employees under Section 6(1), (2) of the relevant ordinance and the determination of fees for admissions, clinical and procedural service and facilities for private patients.
Board chairman Syed Roshan Zamir presided over the meeting.
The meeting decided to take up the matter of evacuation of half of the land of the Muslim Hostel, occupied by the Rangers, with the Sindh chief secretary Sindh.
The meeting also discussed the state of discipline, punctuality, absenteeism and cleanliness in the departments concerned.
It was also decided to ask M/s Usmani and Company to give a presentation about its survey progress of the hospital for the preparation of a master plan for the Liaquat University Hospital for additions and alterations in the existing facilities.
Vice-chancellor of the Liaquat Medical University Professor Jan Mohammad Memon, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital Dr Khalid Qureshi and Director Finance Mohammad Ali Memon attended the meeting as official members. Al-Hajj Mohammad Siddique and Dr Fateh Mohammad Khan were present as non-official members.
POLIO: EDO health Dr Nazar Mohammad Junejo has said polio campaign will be launched in the district on June 9.
He said Hyderabad was not on the list this time, but the visit of a Bagri girl, Amarwati of Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Karachi, to Hyderabad had made the drive necessary.
