HYDERABAD, June 8: Writers, educationists and leaders of social welfare organisations on Wednesday paid tribute to renowned singer Bhagat Kanwar Ram for his services to music and poor people.

They were speaking at the unveiling ceremony of a statue of the late singer at the Institute of Sindhology Jamshoro.

The function was organised by the Institute of Sindhology and the Bhagat Kanwar Ram Memorial Committee.

The heir of Darbar Aasuda Ram in India, Sanat Chando Ram, who had brought the statue, was the chief guest on the occasion.

They said that late Bhagat Kanwar Ram was a great lover of Sindh and he believed in mysticism.

They said that Sindh could perform a leading role in the movement for world peace.

The vice-chancellor of the Sindh University, Mr Mazharul Haq Siddiqui said that Bhagat Kanwar Ram had spread the message of love and peace through his “Raag”.

He said that he was a true Sufi and a great human being.

Mr Siddiqui said that a Bhagat Kanwar Ram Corner had been set up in the Sindh University and added that a chair would also be set up after the approval of the academic council of the university.

Sanat Chando Ram said that the memories of Bhagat Kanwar Ram would always remain in hearts of the lovers of “Raag”.

He said that his Raag and message of peaceful coexistence between Hindus and Muslims should be disseminated.

He said that Sindhi language in India could only be saved if the people talked to their children in their mother tongue right from their birth.—Bureau
