HARIPUR, June 10: About 200 workers of the Haripur district, who have moved the Payment of Wages Authority and Commissioner Workman Compensation against their employers for violation of labour laws, are facing indefinite delay in decision of their cases.

Official sources said that the post of Commissioner Workman Compensation, that also enjoys the powers of Payment of Wages Authority and Standing Order Ordinance, had fallen vacant on April 15, when the former deputy director of Labour Hazara Division, Munsif Khan, retired.

The sources said that the office had more than 200 pending cases of payment of wages, compensation and other related violations of labour laws on April 15, whereas more cases have also been filed.

The office normally receives 50 to 120 cases monthly.

The delay in appointment of Commissioner Workman Compensation, who also performs the duty of deputy director labour, has not only created a backlog of cases with the office but also causing a sense of uncertainty among the labour community.
