SUKKUR June 14: The District Coordination Officer, Sukkur, Shafique Ahmed Khoso, has directed the chairmen of various cooperative housing societies to work out a system to regulate the working of the societies, improve their functioning and provide basic amenities.
An official statement issued here on Wednesday said that the DCO observed this while presiding over a meeting of various societies’ representatives and concerned officers.
He said that societies would also be included in a drainage scheme costing Rs47 million and water supply plan being launched at a cost of Rs62 million in the city.
He informed the participants of the meeting that at least 10 million gallons of untreated water was being flushed into the Indus River almost on daily basis, which was the main cause of water pollution in Sukkur and efforts were underway to drain out the same in a treated form.
He asked the officials to ensure implementation of by-laws of the societies to improve their infrastructure facilities including roads and drainage systems.
He advised the chairmen of societies to maintain close liaison with the DDO of Cooperative Societies to ensure removal of illegal encroachments.
He also directed them to keep a distance of 66 feet from the Sui gas line before starting construction work of houses and asked the DDO Cooperative Societies to play an active role to ensure better performance so that societies could be developed as per their original plan.
KARO-KARI: A man was shot dead on the pretext of karo-kari in village Misri Khoso, Jacobabad, on Wednesday.
Reports said Sobo Khan Rind had declared Suhagan, wife of Ghulam Abbas Rind, his nephew, and asked the couple to leave the village.
The news infuriated Abbas Rind’s other relatives who killed him.
Mureed Rind, brother of Abbas, has registered an FIR against seven persons, Leemon, Bangul, Taghyal, Abdul Ghani and Ellahi Bux.
PROTEST: Hundred villagers of union council Tamachani protested against lawlessness in the union council and staged a sit-in in front of the Sukkur Press Club on Tuesday.
Villagers of Sachal Mahar, Nachan Pur, Ismail Labano and Qadir Bux Mahar staged a sit-in for about one hour against what they said the lawlessness and highhandedness of the Bagarji and Lakhi police.
Talking to newsmen, Khadim Hussain Mahar, Wahid Bux Mahar and others said crimes in their area was on the rise while the police was taking no action.l
They demanded that the police high-ups should take notice of the situation and transfer corrupt police officials from their areas.
They threatened to block the Sukkur bypass if their demands were not met.
