HYDERABAD, June 18: District naib nazim Zafar Rajput has said that the district monitoring committees will be strengthened and its chairmen will be given offices and communication facilities.

He was speaking at a meeting of chairmen of DMCs at his office here on Saturday.

Mr Rajput said the committees nominated by the council were instrument to expedite the pace of development works and to ensure qualitative work through the utilisation of development funds in a transparent manner.

He urged chairmen of DMCs to be vigilant and to identify bottlenecks and leakages if any in departments so that they could be resolved by the district government at early stages.

He called upon the chairmen to hold periodic meetings with management of departments concerned to assist them in executing public welfare projects.

He said that though the departments concerned were legally answerable for their work but according to assignments entrusted to chairmen, they were equally responsible before the council.

He said that henceforth the chairmen would also be provided opportunity in council meetings to speak on performances of departments.

He urged the chairmen to assist the district government for the welfare of people without any discrimination.

Discussing performances of DMCs about the board of revenue, the nazim asked chairman Amjad Hussain to conduct a survey about the available government land in the district to protect it from land grabbers.

He urged the chairman of law committee, Mr Ali Gohar, to prepare a detailed report about cases of the district government under litigation with present status.

The naib nazim expressed satisfaction over the report presented by the chairman of justice committee, Ghulam Rasool Samoo that reconciliation committees were being formed at the UC level to settle disputes and to provide early and easy justice to people without indulging in litigation.

Q. Hakim, chairman of the finance and planning committee, said that the committee did a lot of work and proposed various recommendations which were incorporated in the last budget due to cooperation of the district nazim.

Dr Arif Razmi, chairman of the health committee, briefed the meeting about the performance of the committee.

Munawar Khanzai, chairman of the works and services, expressed satisfaction over performances of the department.

He sought schedule of development works before start so that quality of foundation material of development works could be ensured at the time of execution.

Asrar Mohammad Shaikh, Mohammad Yousuf Khan, Shafat Hussain Shah, Syed Fateh Mohammad Shah, Mohammad Rashid Khan, and Mohammad Ashraf Munna briefed the meeting about performances of their committees and pointed out some problems being experienced by them in the performance of their duties.

The naib nazim assured them that their genuine and professional problems would be solved on the priority basis so that the purpose and targets of committees could be achieved.
