SUKKUR, June 23: Armed men opened fire on former Superintendent of Police Nazeer Ahmed Jagirani, who suffered serious injuries and died in the hospital. His driver was also injured. The attack took place in Massan Muhalla, Rohri, on Friday.

An eyewitness said that the former SP, along with his driver Sumair, was returning home after offering Friday prayers in Al-Hamdolillah Mosque, in Massan Muhalla.

The gunmen who were on motorbikes escaped.

Both the injured were taken to civil hospital, Sukkur, where Nazeer Ahmed Jagirani died.

The DPO of Sukkur, Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh, told newsmen that after the incident a heavy contingent of police raided Jagir village near Sukkur airport and picked up one Mohammad Hashim Jatoi. A kalashnikov rifle found in his possession was seized. No case was registered till the filing this report.

PROTEST: Hundreds of residents of different colonies of New Pind, Sukkur, took out a protest rally, and staged sit-ins at Dadu Chowk, press club and Hesco chief office, Sukkur on Friday, following unannounced load-shedding and power breakdowns spanning over many hours.

The residents of Islam Colony, Pathan Colony, Agha Badaruddin Colony, Mughal Colony, Ahmed Nagar Colony, Microwave Colony, Bhoosa Lane and others led by Abdul Majeed Siddiqui, Inayatullah Niazi and others took out the rally and chanted slogans against the Hesco officials. They gathered at the Dadu Chowk and staged a sit-in for an hour.

Later, the protesters marched towards the press club, and again staged a sit-in for two hours.

The leaders said that Hesco resorted to hours of unannounced load-shedding.
