LAHORE: Punjab Minister for School and Higher Education Rana Sikandar Hayat has said that the future of youth is closely linked with digital literacy and the curriculum is being aligned with the requirements of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

He said the current year was being observed as the “Year of Youth”. In this regard, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) had been signed with Google and Tech Valley to enhance digital skills of 100,000 students and teachers across Punjab.

He expressed these views while chairing a series of meetings with representatives of Google and Tech Valley, focusing on the implementation of AI in educational institutions and progress on adapting curriculum according to AI requirements.

The minister said that under the MoU, Google and Tech Valley would facilitate Google Career Certifications for 100,000 students, teachers, and supporting staff from 64 public and private universities in Punjab.

He further highlighted that these internationally recognised courses — worth thousands of dollars — would be offered free of cost. Mr Hayat added that 14 modern courses had been introduced in collaboration with Tech Valley to strengthen students’ capacity, enabling them to compete in the global market.

He emphasised that technology was evolving rapidly, and mastering it was the key to a bright future for youth. “We are equipping young people with the skills to tackle challenges using AI and empowering them through technology,” he said.

The minister also announced that vice chancellors of the top five performing universities may be sent to Google Headquarters for training.
