DADU, June 28: District Nazim Karim Ali Jatoi presented the budget of Rs1,939.211 million for the fiscal 2006-07 in the district council here on Wednesday. District Naib Nazim Syed Mohammad Shah presided over the session.

The nazim said that the budget was made up of a Rs1,873.011 million share from provincial finance commission and Rs66.2 million to be generated by the district government through its own sources.

The district had allocated Rs1 million for each union council nazim and Rs400,000 for each council member so that they could execute development schemes in their areas, he said.

He said that Rs1,321.525 million were earmarked for salaries and Rs199.535 million for non-salaried expenses. Rs312.709 million had been set aside for ADP, he added.

Mr Jatoi said that the development schemes included construction of DCO secretariat, auditorium hall, beautification of a road from Gymkhana Chowk to Degree College and a 30-bed female ward at Civil Hospital.

Earlier, when Mr Jatoi started his speech, some Awam Dost Panel (ADP) members, Ali Bux, Zeeshan Leghari, Baban Panhwar, Ghulam Mustafa, Ghulam Qadir and Abdul Ghaffar boycotted the session and staged a protest outside the council hall.

ADP members rejected the budget, refusing to attend the session because it was not a peoples-friendly budget.

Council members from Dadu Ittehad Panel, Ms Latifan Bhand, Ali Mohammad, Abid Lakhiar, Ali Sher and Ms Imamzadi praised the budget.
