Unscheduled outages in Sahiwal

Published July 3, 2006

SAHIWAL, July 2: The continuing unscheduled power loadshedding has made life miserable here, compelling people to come out on roads to protest apathy and inefficiency of Mepco staff.

The affected people on contacting Mepco help lines are told that the power suspension is being carried out by the Faisalabad Electricity Supply Company (Fesco), and the local Mepco staff was ignorant of the loadshedding schedule.

The muggy weather and hour-long outages four to five times a day combine to make the situation worse.

Non-replacement of a faulty transformer at Kot Allah Din provoked the area residents to block the traffic for one hour by burning tyres on main Sahiwal-Faisalabad road .

They demanded dismissal of the SDO concerned and called for an end to unscheduled loadshedding .

ACE: Anti-Corruption Establishement registered a case against an ASI of Kasssowal police, Hafiz Shah, for receiving Rs23,000 as bribe from one Muhammad Jamil of Chak 1/14-L in a murder case.
