DADU, July 10: Jamshoro District Nazim Malik Asad Sikandar presented a Rs1,964.069 million budget with a surplus of Rs106.7 million for the fiscal year 2006-07 which the council passed unanimously in its session at the Sehwan Development Authority office, Jamshoro, on Monday.

Naib Nazim Abdul Hameed Buledi presided over the session.

Mr Sikandar said that the district had received Rs1,311.591 million as its share from Sindh government and had opened its account with Rs57.984 million.

He said that the budget allocated Rs1,147.099 million for non-development heads including salary and non-salary, Rs123.369 million for ongoing schemes, Rs30.742 million for new schemes and Rs14.740 million for CCB, which included Rs4.369 million carried over from last year.

The budget earmarked Rs80 million for development programmes, Rs32.276 million for Sindh Devolved Social Services Programme, Rs26.698 million for Education Sector Reforms, Rs18.555 million for School Management Committees, Rs81 million for National Programme for the Improvement of Watercourses, Rs128 million for Drought Emergency Relief Assistance, Rs38.312 million from provincial ADP for education, Rs51 million from federal grant for the redevelopment of Dargah Hazrat Qalandar Lal Shahbaz phase-III, Rs15 million from provincial ADP for the construction of a sports complex in Kotri, Rs12 million from provincial ADP for the rehabilitation of Shah Pir Gate and approach road to Sher Gate in Ranikot, Rs2 million from provincial ADP for the construction of a cultural complex in Ranikot, Rs25.5 million for various self-financed schemes of SDP, and Rs252,200 million for need-based priority and support programme for women councillors, Mr Sikandar said.

He said that the budget set aside Rs28.814 million under salary and non-salary heads of defunct district council and Rs2.5 million for each taluka hospital and health centre.

Rs1 million would be released to each council member (men) and Rs500,000 to women councillors to carry out development schemes in their areas, he said.

The nazim urged the provincial government to release its Rs5 billion share and said he had already recorded his protest over the issue.

Council members, Roshan Buriro, Niaz Memon, Lala Rehman, Makhdoom Zamir and Arbab Hussain discussed the budget and called it people-friendly. Later, the council passed it unanimously.
