Security alert in Attock

ATTOCK, July 13: Like other parts of the country, police in Attock have been put on alert in the backdrop of Mumbai train bombings, and police presence has been increased at the all sensitive points and adjoining towns as well as railway stations.

The District Police officer (DPO) Attock, Capt (Rtd) Zafar Iqbal Awan, told Dawn on Thursday that since Tuesday night police have been put on security alert. Security around important public places particularly at railway stations, bus stands, bazars and other vital installations has been beefed up, the DPO said.

All Sub divisional Police Officer (SDPOs) and Station House officers (SHOs) of Police circles and stations of the district had been directed to keep strict vigilance over any movement of anti-social element by intensifying the patrolling in their respective areas.

Furthermore, local transporters had been asked to ensure proper checking of passengers baggage through body search and metal detector and inform the local police immediately if they seen any mysterious element or baggage, he said.

Besides this, policemen in plainclothes had also been deputed at the bus stands, railway stations to keep check on the movement of incoming and outgoing passengers, while warning boards would also be installed to create awareness among the public, he said. Meetings with the railway police and officials would be held, to ensure patrolling along the track, outside outer signal, DPO added.

RAILWAY POLICE: Senior railway officers have directed the railway police Attock to keep an eye on all passengers without disturbing anyone.

All entry and exit points to PR installations would be properly manned by police and incoming passengers and their luggage would be checked with metal detectors. The Railway authorities have strengthened security arrangements at the railways stations of Taxila, Wah Cantt and Hassanabdal.
