GUJRANWALA, July 15: Around 2,300 manholes out of 10,000 have been found uncovered in the city during a survey conducted by the Wasa.
While District Nazim Fiaz Ahmed Chattha rejected the figure and directed the agency on Friday to carry out a fresh survey and submit him a comprehensive report within a week.
Reports said that a minor boy had lost his life after falling into an open manhole a few days ago. Holding the Wasa responsible for the tragedy, the district nazim had directed to assign the task of handling the sewerage system to four towns — Khialishahpur, Aroop, Nandipur and Qila Dedar Singh.
He also ordered that all manholes should be covered with lids on a priority basis to avoid further loss of lives as the rainy season had already started.
The survey report, got prepared by Wasa managing director Bashir Ahmad Tarer, pointed out that about 2,300 manholes in four towns were without lids, which were either stolen by addicts or destroyed due to heavy traffic.
