HYDERABAD, July 17: Members of school teachers’ associations and lower staff marched and staged a sit-in in protest against what they said a false case registered against central vice-chairman of the Sindh Employees Union, Amanullah Teghani.

Primary Teachers Association, Masjid School Teachers Association and Government School Teachers Association participated in the protest held on the Hyderabad-Badin road in Tando Muhammad Khan.

Speaking on the occasion, Tando Muhammad Khan PTA district president Mumtaz Baladi, Allah Dino Veesaro, Wazir Ahmed Keerio and Nawaz Nizamani said tribal disputes were destroying Sindh.

They said Amanullah Teghani, who is also central president of the Masjid School Teachers Association, had been falsely implicated in the Teghani-Ogahi tribal dispute.

They said Teghani was living in Tando Muhammad Khan for 10 years and he had nothing to do with the ongoing tribal war.

They called upon the Sindh government to take serious notice of the registration of a false case against Teghani to end unrest among teachers.

Speaking to reporters, Amanullah Teghani said he had been falsely implicated in the case as he had nothing to do with any tribal dispute.

CONDEMNED: Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi has severly criticised the alleged excesses of the Dadu jail authorities against party leader Gulzar Soomro.

In a statement faxed to Dawn, he said that though the leader was seriously ill, the authorities had put him in seclusion.

They were not allowing even relatives to meet Mr Soomro nor he was hospitalised despite the advice of doctors.

If any harm came to Gulzar Soomro, the responsibility for the consequences would rest on the shoulders of the Dadu district administration and the Sindh government, he warned.

HUNGER STRIKE: Activists of the PPP-SB staged a demonstration and observed a hunger strike outside the Hyderabad Press Club here on Monday against delay in the arrest of the murderers of Iqbal Naich, the taluka president of the party, Qambar.

Speaking to protesters, Peeral Majidano, Rasheed Samoon and Shahab Shaikh said four days had passed since the murder of Iqbal Naich, but the Qambar police had failed to arrest the culprits.

They threatened to stage demonstrations throughout the province if the murderers of Iqbal Naich were not arrested.

VC ON VISIT: University of Sindh vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui here on Monday left for India to participate in sesquicentennial celebrations of the University of Mumbai (Bombay).

The 150th year celebrations of Mumbai University will start from July 18.

Sindh University Registrar Professor Dr Saeed Ahmed Soomro will look after the affairs of the institution in the absence of Mr Mazhar.

LLM: The University of Sindh has extended the date for submission of admission forms in the LLM previous for the academic session 2006 up to Aug 20.
