‘Benazir candidate for PM’

Published July 23, 2006

ISLAMABAD, July 22: PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto would be the party’s candidate for premiership. This was stated by Makhdoom Amin Fahim, chairman the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD), in a statement issued here on Saturday.

Mr Fahim said a section of the press has reported that the ARD has decided to nominate him as the next prime minister which is not correct.

“When the PPP and its allies win the next general elections, Benazir Bhutto will be the party’s candidate for the post of prime minister,” he said.

Ms Bhutto is also the chairperson of the ARD and “I am deputising on her behalf in my capacity as vice president of the Pakistan Peoples Party,” he added.
