SUKKUR, July 23: A complete strike was observed in protest against robbery of Rs2.7 million in the house of Awam Dost UC Nazim in Fauji Muhalla of Pano Akil, late on Saturday night.

According to reports, armed bandits barged into the house of Pano Akil Awam Dost Nazim Shabbir Shaikh, overpowered the inmates and deprived him and his family members of cash, gold ornaments, other valuable and a licensed gun all worth about Rs2.7 million.

PPP MPA Dr Nasrullah Baloch rushed to the scene and joined the protesters who had blockaded the Pano Akil police station along with UC nazim and other people, who were raising slogans against police.

The blockade ended when police assured the protesters of early arrest of the accused.

Hundreds of activists belonging to PPP, JSQM, PPP Shaheed Bhutto, Tehrik-i-Insaaf, MMA, Shahree Ittehad and others, led by PPP MPAs Dr. Nasrullah Baloch, Jam Saifullah Dharejo, former MPA Ghulam Mustafa Bozdar, and UC Nazim Shabbir Shaikh, after burning tyres at Shah Latif Chowk, Eidgah Chowk and Sadhoja Chowk, reached at the National Highway at Baiji Chowk and observed a sit-in for four hours, suspending vehicular traffic at both the ends.

Pano Akil TPO Ghulam Mohammad Mahar along with a heavy contingent of police reached on the scene and asked the protestors to end the blockade, but the protestors refused.

The police arrested Murad Mahar, a Mahar group councillor of UC Nauraja and Ghulam Hussain Kalhoro, on the demand of the protesters, after which the blockade ended.
