OKARA, July 24: The Punjab Bar Council on Monday cancelled licences of the three lawyers who had allegedly manhandled the district bar association secretary-general on the PBC premises, besides sending their cases to its disciplinary body for further punitive action.

The Okara DBA also held its general body meeting, besides holding complete strike to protest against the highhandedness of advocates Lala Javid Ashraf Gujjar, Rana Idrees and a former DBA president Rana Shaukat Ali.

The association unanimously cancelled the bar membership of the three lawyers and also disallowed their chamber allotments

Reports said former DBA head Rana Shaukat Ali had filed a writ petition with the PBC in Lahore against the report of a five-member audit committee of the association, headed by president Chaudhry. Habibur Rehman, alleging embezzlement of DBA funds by the former bar chief.

On Saturday last, after the proceedings of Punjab Bar Council executive committee headed by chairman Hasan

Raza Pasha, the three lawyers intercepted the District Bar Association secretary-general Rai Muhammad Arshad Raza outside the Council executive committee room and manhandled him, using abusive language.

As the incident was witnessed by the Council members, they immediately cancelled the lawyers licences

The decision was also communicated to the district and session judge, all civil judges, Distrtict Police Officer, Executive District Officer (revenue) and Deputy District Officer (revenue).
