KARACHI, July 25: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has declared that no power on the earth could stop the upcoming revolution of the poor and middle class in the country.

In a statement issued on the occasion of the 9th founding day of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Mr Hussain recalled that the movement, foundation of which had been laid 28 years back at the University of Karachi, had now become voice of the poor and middle class across the country and Azad Kashmir.

He said that the MQM today was the third biggest party in Pakistan representing the 98 per cent poor and middle class people. He deplored the propaganda unleashed against the MQM to keep the deprived and oppressed people of Pakistan away from the party.

When the decision to change the party’s name from the Mohajir Qaumi Movement to Muttahida Qaumi Movement was taken on Aug 14, 1992, the power-entrenched mafia comprising feudal lords and capitalists resorted to initiating a worst kind of state-sponsored operation against the MQM.

“In the way of righteous struggle, thousands of innocent workers, including my elder brother Nasir Hussain and nephew Arif Hussain, were brutally murdered. And in order to misguide people, the MQM was labeled as a terrorist and anti-state party. All oppressive tactics were used to keep people away from the MQM but despite all such conspiracies, propaganda and repression, the philosophy of righteousness could not be stopped from spreading across the country.”

Greeting his party colleagues and masses on the 9th founding day of the renamed party, he hoped that they would continue the support and take part in the struggle for the rights of common man.

Mr Hussain asked party men to remember all martyrs and their dependents on the occasion because it was their sacrifices that helped MQM gain the popularity and success it enjoyed today.

“Let us resolve that we will not let their sacrifices go in vain; and we will continue the struggle till the achievement of the movement’s objectives,” Mr Hussain added.
