SWABI: Police raided various areas to arrest PTI workers to stop them from holding a meeting in the Shewa Adda area of Razaar tehsil here on Sunday.

As per arrangements, former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Sohail Afridi planned to reach Shewa Adda on Sunday evening and address the workers, but due to the imposition of the governor’s rule and an emergency in the province, his meeting could not take place.

However, sources said that some PTI leaders told the workers to reach the Razaar Sports Complex in Shewa Adda to hold the meeting.

It has been learnt that the police crackdown began after the governor’s rule and an emergency was imposed in the province.

The police also started patrolling in the Shewa Adda and surrounding areas to scuttle any gathering of PTI workers, police sources said.

A large number of police personnel were also deployed at Karnal Sher Khan Chowk in the district headquarters to deal with any PTI protest.

Similarly, police were also deployed at the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway.
