Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi will undertake an official two-day visit to Pakistan on Tuesday, the Foreign Office (FO) said on Monday.

According to a statement issued by the FO, Albusaidi’s visit, taking place at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, will last from Oct 13-14.

The statement added that during the visit, the Eighth Session of the Pakistan-Oman Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) would be held in Islamabad, co-chaired by the foreign ministers of the two countries.

“The meeting would serve as an important platform to review the entire spectrum of Pakistan-Oman bilateral relations and to further strengthen cooperation in diverse fields,” the FO said.

Additionally, Albusaidi is expected to make a courtesy call on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his visit.

According to the FO, the visit “reflects the longstanding fraternal relations between Pakistan and Oman and is expected to further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation across multiple sectors”.

On Saturday, DPM Dar chaired an inter-ministerial meeting in Islamabad to review preparations for the upcoming JMC session, according to state-run Radio Pakistan.

The meeting reviewed the agenda, bilateral agreements, and arrangements for the co-chairing of the JMC session, it said.

According to Radio Pakistan, the session will focus on “deepening cooperation in trade, investment, industry, agriculture, finance, oil and gas, labour, consular affairs, security, defence, climate change, civil aviation, education, media, and culture”.

Dar highlighted the importance of the commission in strengthening bilateral relations. He directed stakeholders to ensure thorough preparations and effective follow-up to “secure tangible outcomes”, the outlet added.
