Five members of a family were found dead on Tuesday in a locked one-room apartment in Karachi’s Bin Qasim Town, police said.

Those dead included a middle-aged couple, along with their two daughters under the age of six, and the husband’s sister who was in her early 20s, according to Bin Qasim Station House Officer (SHO) Faisal Rafiq.

Police said the apartment in Gulshan-i-Falaknaz Block J was locked from the inside.

The SHO said the couple had suffered fatal injuries, adding that a pistol was recovered from the incident site.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar and the provincial police chief ordered that the deaths be probed from all possible angles.

The Edhi rescue service said the bodies had been transferred to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

Home minister takes notice

Taking notice of the incident, the home minister sought details from the Malir senior superintendent of police (SSP).

In a statement, Lanjar directed that the incident be investigated from all angles and that “every possible measure” be taken to bring the facts and motives to light.

“The elements involved in the incident should be identified and action should be ensured according to the law,” Lanjar was quoted as saying.

He ordered officials to keep him updated on progress in the case.

Meanwhile, Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Alam Odho sought a detailed report from the east deputy inspector general, a statement issued by his office said.

“A transparent and impartial investigation covering all aspects of the incident must be conducted, and the actual causes of the deaths determined,” IGP Odho said.

He also directed officers to ensure immediate evidence collection and fulfilment of legal requirements, including forensic analysis.

He added that potential criminal angles should be probed and directed officers to keep him updated on the investigation.

Last month, a middle-aged doctor, his wife and their three underage daughters were found dead at their Ahsanabad apartment in Scheme-33 off Superhighway. IGP Odho had established a high-powered body to investigate the incident.
