Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Wednesday issued production orders for two PTI MNAs Sanaullah Khan Masti Khel and Dawar Khan Kundi.

On Tuesday, the PTI urged Sadiq in a letter to issue production orders for its nine detained MNAs, including Khel and Kundi, ahead of the National Assembly and Senate sessions on Tuesday.

In the letter, Chief Whip Amir Dogar claimed that nine PTI MNAs were “currently detained” and requested him to issue production orders for them to enable them to attend the session NA session that commenced on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Sadiq issued the production orders under the powers conferred by Rule 108 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.

According to the production order, seen by Dawn, the speaker considered the presence of the two MNAs during the NA session, which was summoned by President Asif Ali Zardari on Oct 13, “necessary”, observing that they were currently in the custody of the Punjab police.

“You are, therefore, directed to produce the aforesaid members … at the commencement of each sitting of the National Assembly before the sergeant-at-arms at the Parliament House, Islamabad, who shall, after the conclusion of the sitting, deliver them into your custody,” the order said.

Copies of the order have been sent by the NA Secretariat to the secretary of the interior ministry, Punjab’s chief secretary, additional chief secretary and additional home secretary; the chief commissioner and inspector general of police of the Islamabad Capital Territory, and the sergeant-at-arms of the NA for “necessary action and coordination” to ensure the production of the named MNAs.

The Centre on Sunday imposed emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, citing the PTI-led provincial government’s “deliberate disengagement” from the fight against terrorism.

Subsequently, several PTI leaders, including the non-functional chief minister of the province, Sohail Afridi, were taken into custody.
