LAHORE: Expressing concerns at the deteriorating law and order situation and rising incidents of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a resolution was submitted to the Punjab Assembly Secretariat on Thursday endorsing the federal government’s imposition of governor’s rule in the neighbouring province.

Moved by the PML-N Chief Whip in the Punjab Assembly, Rana Muhammad Arshad, the draft text highlights the severe security challenges facing KP and urges that the Centre’s decision be viewed strictly in the broader national and state interest. The resolution emphasizes that when extraordinary circumstances arise, timely, effective and necessary constitutional actions become imperative to uphold the writ of the state and protect the lives and property of citizens.

Through the resolution, the House will pay rich tribute to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and commend his stance in prioritising national security, state stability, and public interest over potential political fallout or narrow expediency.

The document states that crucial decisions regarding national safety must not be deferred out of fear of political loss, pointing out that the imposition of emergency was based on data, comprehensive security reports, and ground realities rather than partisan motives. It further underlines that counter-terrorism measures, the maintenance of law and order, and the protection of citizens remain the shared responsibility of the entire state and nation rather than any single political party.

Expressing hope that the federal setup will help restore normal life and establish effective governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the resolution concludes by extending full support from the assembly for all constitutional and legal steps taken by the federal government to secure durable peace and stability across the region.
