HYDERABAD, July 30: Emi-nent scholars, writers and poets said on Friday that immortal poet Shah Latif had preached patriotism and loyalty to the soil in his poetry.

They said that Shah was one of the greatest exponents of universal peace and love.

They were speaking at a ceremony held for launching Nain Zindagi magazine’s special Shah Latif issue.

The function was organised by the Press Information Department of the ministry of information and broadcasting.

In his presidential address, renowned scholar Dr Nabi Bux Baloch said that Nain Zindagi magazine was started in 1950 and its different numbers needed to be published in book form.

Dr Baloch called upon Sindhi writers and scholars to stop vacuous writings and do some practical work in the field of literature and research.

Noted short story writer Hameed Sindhi said that Nain Zindagi had played an important role in the promotion of Sindhi literature. He said that many a good magazine like “Rooh Rehan” and “Sohni” were published in 50s and 60s.

Noted poet and one-time editor of Nain Zindagi, Shamsherul Hyderi said that it was Maulana Abdul Wahid Sindhi who had encouraged women to become writers.

Poet Inayat Baloch said that there was a need of improving the standard of Nain Zindagi and added that there was no dearth of poets, writers and research scholars in Sindh.
