QUETTA: Awami National Party’s Balochistan president was arrested on Wednesday after a court cancelled his bail in a road accident case.

While condemning the bail cancellation, the Balochistan Bar Council has announced courts boycott on Oct 22.

The counsel for Asghar Khan Achakzai said the father of deceased Zahir Shah had lodged an FIR in Chaman police station accusing him of the fatal accident.

However, the applicant Zahir Shah later withdrew the name of Mr Achakzai and submitted an affidavit to the court. He stated, “Asghar Khan Achakzai has nothing to do with this case and he is like his brother.”

When the case came up for hearing on Wednesday, the court cancelled the ANP leader’s bail. Subsequently, police arrested Mr Achakzai.

At a presser, party’s parliamentary leader in the Balochistan Assembly Zamarak Khan Piralizai expressed serious concern over the bail cancellation and termed it a conspiracy against the leadership. He said Mr Achakzai was being silenced as he was vocal against unconstitutional measures.
