SWABI, July 31: Provincial Education Minister Maulana Fazal said on Monday that the NWFP government would not allow any changes to the curriculum contrary to the ideology of Pakistan.

Fazal said that the Education Directorate had received ‘proposals’ from President General Pervez Musharraf as regarding revision of the curriculum.

“But we will never allow changes in the curriculum that are against the ideology of the country,” he said, adding that there was a dire need to frame a core curriculum fulfil ethical, moral and social requirements of the country.

“We are reviewing the proposals very carefully,” he said. “I don’t know why the federal government is in such a hurry to bring about changes to the curriculum. There are more important issues, but nobody is willing to take them up,” he said.

The minister said they favoured modernisation of the curriculum, “but it should not happen at the cost of our faith and ideology; we have to protect them under all circumstances.”

He said that the NWFP government would discuss the proposals at a workshop in Peshawar on August 16 and 17 and record the views of the experts as regards proposed changes to the curriculum.
