GUJRAT: Police on Monday claimed to have arrested the key suspect allegedly linked to a violent students gang involved in shooting incidents and kidnapping students from different colleges in the city.

A Gujrat police spokesman said on the directions of District Police Officer Faisal Shahzad, Saddar Station House Officer Raja Shehroz raided a place and arrested Amanullah of Gurali, who was allegedly heading a student gang. The suspect was wanted in a case involving the shooting and injuring of a student a few days ago.

He added that Amanullah had also been nominated as a suspect in another kidnapping case registered with the city’s B-Division police station and had been absconding.

The spokesman said Gujrat police were determined to eliminate hooliganism and violence by such gangs from educational institutions and other parts of the city. Meanwhile, Saddar police claimed to have solved the murder of a citizen and arrested three suspects.

Police said the body of Asad Shah, a resident of Moinuddinpur, had been found in a storm water drain on the outskirts of the city. A murder case was registered on Sept 17.

The police said they traced and arrested three suspects, who allegedly confessed to killing Asad through physical torture following an altercation.

Police also claimed to have busted two gangs of robbers and thieves and recovered looted goods and vehicles from their possession.

ACCIDENT: At least five girl students of a school and a rickshaw driver were injured during a road accident along Gujranwala road in Hafizabad city early on Monday.

Rescue officials said a rickshaw carrying students was on its way to the school when a speeding car hit it leaving the rickshaw driver and five girls injured. The injured were shifted to Hafizabad district headquarter hospital where doctors later referred two of them to Lahore.

Hafizabad Deputy Commissioner Syed Hussain Bahadar also reached the hospital and inquired after them and directed the hospital administration to provide better services to the injured.
