QUETTA, Aug 1: The Balochistan University has decided to introduce phases-wise semester system in departments of the varsity where annual examination system is still in vogue.
In another development, the provincial government has allotted 500 acres of land to the university in Gwadar and in the suburbs of Quetta.
According to a press release, the university’s vice-chancellor chaired a meeting which discussed introducing the semester system under a development programme in those departments of the varsity that were still following the annual examination system.
The meeting lauded efforts of the chief secretary and the additional chief secretary (development) for securing allotment of land in Gwadar and Quetta to the varsity for opening various departments in the new port city and suburbs of the provincial capital.
Meanwhile, the executive committee of the Academic Staff Association, Balochistan University, held a meeting which was presided over by its president Dr Imdad Hussain. The meeting expressed dissatisfaction over non-acceptance of demands of the association by the university administration.
It also endorsed a decision of the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Associations, taken in a meeting held in the Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad on July 15, to observe black day and token hunger strikes in all public universities on August 17 and 22 respectively.
