SUKKUR, Aug 1: The peak flood of the season is expected to pass Sukkur Barrage on August 10, as levels at Tarbela and Mangla dam reservoirs have been filled to capacity. The irrigation authorities have put the staff on high alert and advised people of katcha area to adopt protective measures.

On Tuesday, water flow upstream at the Guddu Barrage was 185,000 cusecs and downstream 159,000 cusecs.

The Sukkur Barrage upstream flow was 127,000 cusecs and downstream 83,000 cusecs.

The Kotri Barrage upstream flow remained 40,000 cusecs and downstream 31,000 cusecs.

The water level at the three barrages was on constant rise.

The flow of seven off-taking canals of the Sukkur Barrage has gone down by 50 per cent due to the high intensity of monsoon in the catchments area.

On Tuesday, all the canals were running according to the indent and situation was normal.

Irrigation sources said that 300,000 cusecs water had been released from Chesma which would reach Sukkur by August 8, raising the level between 250,000 cusecs to 280,000 cusecs.

The level of Tarbela reservoir has reached 1,521 feet, while its full capacity is 1,550 feet and that of Mangla dam was recorded 1,197 feet against its full capacity 1,202 feet.

If another monsoon spell takes place in the northern country, then the pond level of both the dams would touch full capacity mark which will raise the pond level at the Sukkur Barrage.

As a result, the biggest flash flood was expected here in the second week of August.

Man crushed to death: A tractor crushed a man to death at Jungle More in Thull on Tuesday.
