ISLAMABAD: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and its main ally, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), on Tuesday held a meeting to review the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) following the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule, and discussed the proposed Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms (PCER).

The consultative meeting was convened by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and attended by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and his delegation, comprising Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, Senator Sherry Rehman and Raja Pervez Ashraf. KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti. Some federal cabinet members and senior officials also attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz also held a separate meeting with Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir to discuss the overall situation in the country, a source in the Prime Minister’s Office told Dawn.

When contacted, a source privy to the meeting said it was a long-overdue meeting with the prime minister, during which the situation in all provinces was discussed.

KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi briefed the PM on the latest situation in the province, particularly administrative measures and the issue of terrorism.

Similarly, Balochistan Governor Sarfraz Bugti apprised the meeting of the security situation in his province.

The source said the proposed formation of the Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms also came under discussion, with the prime minister expressing the desire that the committee be constituted without further delay.

The source said Mr Bilawal informed the prime minister that his party would soon submit the names of its nominees to National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for the parliamentary committee.
