HYDERABAD, Aug 3: The registrar of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology announced on Thursday that election for representation of professors, associate professors, assistant professors and lecturers on the university syndicate would be held on August 12.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, the registrar said that the election was held every three years for four seats.

He said that Dr Rafique Abro, Sikandar Memon and Rahim Bux Khokhar had already been elected unopposed on seats of professor, assistant professor and lecturer, respectively.

He said that there were three candidates in the field for the post of associate professor. They are: Nadir Ali Khwaja, Atta Mohammad Phul and Aitabar Ali Abbasi.

SEMINAR: The Institute of Information Technology of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology on Wednesday organised a seminar on fast emerging telecommunication technology “Optical cross connects - device for next generation optical networks”.

The paper was presented by Ahmer Shahzad Memon, who has recently returned from England after completing his MS in telecommunication from the Oxford Brookes University.

In his presentation, Mr Memon said that optical cross device had the ability to connect any input to any output.

He said that the main function of optical cross connect was to dynamically reconfigure the network at the wavelength level either for the restoration processes or to accommodate changes in bandwidth.
