SHEIKHUPURA, Aug 5: Rain and flooding of stormwater channels hit nearly four dozen villages in Shiekhupura and Sialkot on Saturday.

Nullah Dek, in high flood for the last one week, was a major source of inundation of villages in Sheikhupura, according to district officer agriculture (extension).

Affected villages were Kathiala Virkan, Chack 26 UCC, Khanna Lubana, Anbanwala, Dera Arainwala, Chak 27, 28, 29, Fatehpuri, Saag Pulli, Choheywali, Berwala, Dera Thekedaran, Alla Multan, Sheikhupura Bedad, Dahir, Gunnah, Ladhewala Virkan Rajpura, Chaura Rajputan, Tapiala Dost Muhammad, Mari Chehlan, Loharanwala, Nangal Kaswala, Chak No 31, Khanna Lubana, Maganwala, Kot Syedan, Nangal Eisa and Nangal Sahdhaan. Villages 28, 31 and Khanna Lubana were completely completely submerged.

The Sheikhupura district has meanwhile been divided into the 10 sectors while 36 relief camps and four flood relief centres have been established in four tehsils.

This was stated by zila nazim Sahibzada Mian Jalil Ahmad Sharaqpuri while addressing a meeting at the DCO office.

District officer (revenue) Javid Iqbal said that the administration had taken all preventive measures to fight floods. He said an assessment of damage to crops would be carried out.

SIALKOT: As many as 16 villages and standing crops on hundreds of acres of land were inundated as stormwater overflowed the banks of nullah Dek and Aik.

According to the official sources, Pasrur tehsil’s 10 villages and crops over hundreds of the acres were inundated due to spate Dek.

In Sambrial tehsil, six villages were inundated by overflowing Aik.

Meanwhile, heavy rain on Saturday added to the miseries of Bajwat people who could not cross river Tavi by boat to reach Sialkot.

Bajwat’s 85 villages along the Sialkot Working Boundary were cut off from the rest of the district four weeks ago after a wooden bridge over the river near Saidpur Pattan was washed away.

The fresh spell of rain has increased water level in Chenab, Tavi and Tavi Munawar.
