ABBOTTABAD, Aug 7: The District Reconstruction Advisory Committee has suggested Rs857.442 million reconstruction projects for Abbottabad and forwarded the suggestion to the Provincial Earthquake Rehabilitation Authority (Pera) for final approval.

A meeting of the committee was held in the local office of the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (Erra) with District Nazim Sardar Haider Zaman in the chair. It was attended by heads of all the executing agencies and government departments.

The committee approved to build, in the first phase, four major roads linking 11 union councils of the district at a cost of Rs280.5 million. For reconstruction of the Abbottabad circuit bench building of the Peshawar High Court, Rs80 million PC-1 and for the Central Jail Abbottabad, Rs74.763 million PC-1 was approved. For reconstruction of DRO, DCO, court rooms and other buildings in kutchery, Rs94.819 millions were approved while for the police lines project, Rs82.37m were approved.

A total Rs176.99m were approved for school projects which included Rs26.49m for Dalola and Boi Union Council, Rs52.71m for Bakot and adjoining areas, and Rs176.99m for Abbottabad city. In another school package, Rs78m were approved for Kokmang area.

The committee was told that local NGO ‘Now’ had planned to provide 1,000 shelters and tents to widows and other earthquake survivors whose names would be provided to it by the committee.

About implementation of the projects, the committee was told that after its approval by Pera, the list of projects would be scrutinised by Nespak after which Nespak and Perra would award contracts.

SIX KILLED IN ACCIDENT: Six tourists, three of them brothers, were killed when their vehicle fell into a deep ditch at Ratti Parri near Changla Gali on Sunday night.

Police said the accident occurred due to heavy fog in the area. Among the deceased, Sher Khan, Jamal Khan and Abdullah were brothers and belonged to Rawalpindi. Other three include driver Ghulam Sabir, Qasir Qadeer and an unknown person. Nathiagali police shifted the bodies to Murree and handed them over to their relatives.

Officials said that the accident occurred near Bagnother and all the six occupants of the vehicle were killed on the spot.

Meanwhile police has advised tourists not to drive in night because there is low visibility and heavy fog.
