HYDERABAD, Aug 9: Military Lands and Cantonments (MLC) director-general Maj-Gen Wajahat Hussain Muftee on Wednesday said that the row with Wapda was not yet resolved as Wapda was not seeking renewal of the lease of their properties in cantonment areas.

Talking to journalists after inaugurating a ‘facilitation room’ in the Hyderabad Cantonment Board, he said that record of all cantonment boards was being computerised.

About differences with Wapda, he said: “There are issues to be resolved and both organisations are looking into it. Wapda is not getting lease of its properties in our areas renewed. They are not paying rent for using facilities in our areas.”

He said notices had been issued to those builders who had deviated from terms and conditions of approved building plans.

Maj-Gen Muftee said the property tax issue would now be easy to handle as its details would be available online.

“A website of cantonment boards is being launched. We have already scanned documents relating to taxation and properties. Taxpayers will themselves be able to see formula and calculate their tax and pay the same while sitting at home,” he said.

He said record of death and birth certificates was also being computerised and referred to the Walton Cantonment where a link had been set up with the National Database and Registration Authority.

In reply to a question about elections in cantonment boards, he said it was up to the federal government to announce a schedule for the polls and added that the MLC had made preparations in this regard.

Earlier, the director-general attended a briefing given by the cantonment executive officer.
