THATTA, Aug 11: Pakistan People’s Party MPA Sassui Palijo alleged on Friday that the Sindh government’s coalition partners were busy entering bogus and fictitious names in voter lists taking advantage of torrential rains and sea intrusion in the district’s coastal belt.

She appealed to the Election Commission to take notice of the wrongdoing before they succeeded in converting the majority into minority.

During her visit to her constituency, Mirpur Sakro, and other flooded villages including Aloo Mallah, Ramzan Jatt, Haji Ibrahim Jatt, Jhangisar, Baghan and Seek Kajhirio she urged the election commissioner to extend the last date for the registration of voters names so that the flood-hit people could register themselves after getting rid of their present hardships.

Ms Palijo criticised the district government and said that the people had been left at the mercy of circumstances.

She demanded that the entire coastal belt of Thatta be declared calamity-hit and the government should waive off or postpone land revenue, abiyana (water taxes) and recovery of agricultural loans.

She demanded shifting affectees to relief camps and urged the coalition partners not to abuse their authority and influence by using state machinery to convert local majority into minority.

Ms Palijo announced that she would set up medical camps in the area bear all the expenses herself.
