HYDERABAD, Aug 13: Heavy rain in the southern part of the province have inundated crops, villages and roads.

Intermittent downpour since Saturday disrupted government’s plans for celebrating Independence Day.

The Met office in Hyderabad recorded 66.5mm rain since Saturday night. The rain lashed the city for half an hour without any break causing the power to go off for some time but later it was restored.

The downpour resumed on Sunday morning and continued intermittently through the day turning into heavy downpour accompanied by lightning in the evening which lasted for more than 45 minutes.

THATTA: The torrential rains, which have lashed the district intermittently since Friday, made the matters worse in the district’s coastal belt which is already inundated by water from rains and sea intrusion.

It multiplied problems for people in Keti Bunder, Kharochhan, Jati, Baghan, Sajan Wari and several other coastal villages which were already submerged in knee-deep water.

Commuters complained that the rains have caused large potholes on the newly reconstructed National Highway from Thatta to Gharo and onward.

In Sujawal, the rainwater inundated all main and link roads and caused some major faults in the PTCL network. It also rained in Mirpur Bathoro, Daro, Bannu, Laiqpur and Chuhar Jamali.

MIRPURKHAS: Intermittent rain with windstorm lashed the city and other towns of the district on Sunday.

The rain caused over a dozen electricity poles to collapse in the city and Mirwah, Digri, Tando Jan Mohammad, Jhuddo, Naukot, Kot Ghulam Moham-mad, Samaro, Kunri, Umerkot, Pithoro, Shadi Palli and Jhilori.
