KOHAT, Aug 15: The Qaumi Tehrik of Darra Adam Khel, Kohat’s frontier region has demanded arrest of the president of Mushtarika Markets and secretary general of Jewellers Association for allegedly calling the Afridi tribe ‘drug smugglers, thieves and criminals’ at a protest meeting last week.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Qaumi Tehrik president Syed Wazir Afridi said Sher Mohammad Khan and Riaz advocate had been declared unwanted persons by the Afridi tribe of Darra Adam Khel and fined Rs20 million.

The political agent of FR, Kohat, had been informed in writing that both the men were wanted by them for recovery of the money, he said. He was accompanied by elders of eight main tribes and dozens of notables belonging to the tribal area.

He said since Qaumi Tehrik had been handing over local tribesmen involved in criminal activities as well as proclaimed offenders to the Kohat administration under an agreement since June, DCO Kohat Arshad Majeed Mohmand, who is also the political agent, was bound to reciprocate.

About the punishments handed over under their system, Mr Afridi said heroin seller is fined Rs100,000 and car lifter Rs100,000 plus two personal sureties. He said a kidnapper would pay a fine of Rs500,000. Besides, his house would be demolished and he would be expelled from the area for five years, he added.

If a jirga member was killed, the person responsible, would be fined Rs1 million, he said, adding that in case of injuries to a jirga member, the fine would be Rs500,000.

Later speaking at another press conference on Monday, Tehsil Nazim Kohat Dilbar Khan Afridi said the misunderstandings between the Darra tribesmen and the office-bearers of the business community would be removed.
