DADU, Aug 17: A high flow of water was passing through Dadu and Jamshoro districts on Thursday.
Fifty more villages and hundreds of acres of land in kutcho area were inundated.
Sindh Irrigation Secretary Shuja Junejo along with Sukkur Barrage chief engineer (left bank) Agha Aijaz, Sukkur Barrage chief engineer (right bank), Atta Mohammad Soomro and superintending engineer (Rohri circle) Ghulam Hussain Leghari visited the LS bund and J-spur of the Dadu-Moro bridge.
The secretary irrigation told Dawn that the pressure of flood water at Guddu and Sukkur barrages had decreased while it was increasing at the Kotri Barrage.
A high flow of water passed from sensitive points in Guddu and Sukkur barrage areas including the KK bund, Chak bund, Qadirpur bund, Lahoti bund and Machhako bund were safe.
He said that at present the pressure of flood water was below Sukkur at Faridabad bund near Khairpur, SM bund, Mud bund at mile No 78 near Sakrand, Bhorti bund at mile No. 58, at Bakhri bund at mile No. 48 near Darbelo and at J-spur of Dadu-Moro bridge.
He said that Guddu bund, Latifabad, Ghalalian bund, Front bund Jamshoro and Markhil bund of the Kotri Barrage were under pressure.
He said that after rise in the water level in Indus River, 3,000 to 4,000 cusecs water from the Manchhar Lake was being flown into the Indus River through Aral tail-end and 3,000 to 4,000 cusecs water from Indus River was flowing into Manchhar.
He said that the Manchhar Lake was receiving fresh water from the Indus River so it would not affect people.
He said that there were 148 sensitive points along the Indus River in Sindh and ten of them were most sensitive.
He said that still all bunds were safe and strong.
He said that on Thursday morning, 548,000 cusecs water was flowing upstream of the Sukkur Barrage and 509,000 cusecs downstream. At the Kotri Barrage, 234,900 cusecs water was flowing at upstream and 234,000 cusecs downstream.
He said that the Army was helping irrigation staff at sensitive places.
Jamshoro DCO Jamil Khuhawar and DO (revenue) Sohail Adeeb Bachani visited sensitive parts in kutcha area in Manjhand taluka and advised people to shift to safer places.
Jamshoro District Naib Nazim Abdul Hameed Buledi also visited the kutcha area in Sehwan taluka and directed mukhtiarkar to shift dwellers of 25 villages of Sehwan to safer places.
Dadu DCO Aijaz Mangi, executive engineer (irrigation) Shafqat Hussain Wadho visited LS bund at Pat Sharif.
NAWABSHAH: The water level was continuously increasing at the Mud bund point in the Indus River.
The executive engineer of the Dad irrigation division told Dawn that 325,000 cusecs water was passing on Thursday and the peak level of about 500,000 cusecs would pass on Saturday.
He said that the situation was under control and stone pitching was continuing to strengthen the embankments.
