HYDERABAD, Aug 17: The Sindh government has formed a sub-committee for reviewing in detail the cost of various inputs, trends of prices and overall cost of production of different crops.

The sub-committee comprises representatives of farmers, crop specialists and officials of the agriculture extension and research department.

The decision in this connection was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of agriculture secretary Muhakumuddin Qadri in Karachi on Wednesday.

The secretary said that growers’ participation would be ensured in calculating the cost of production and recommendations about support prices of various crops in Sindh.

The secretary said that the recommendations of the sub-committee would be discussed by a larger forum in which all stakeholders would be invited.

He said that the government would continue to protect rights of growers and ensure that they get better returns for their produce.

He underlined the need for improving yield per acre and judicious use of inputs with an objective of reducing cost of production and more benefit to growers.

The price fixation mechanism for different crops being adopted by Punjab was also discussed at the meeting.

The meeting was attended by Anwar Bachani of the Sindh Chamber of Agriculture, additional secretary (technical), director-general of the agriculture extension and research and officials of the Sindh agriculture department.
