KHAIRPUR, Aug 21: Three people died of gastroenteritis as more cases were reported from Khairpur, Faiz Ganj, Kingri and Kotdiji talukas on Monday. Four-year-old Latifan, daughter of Baig Mohammad (Paryal Chang village), died in RHC Faiz Ganj, while her brother Wazir Ali and Zainab, Naseem, Ghazi Khan and Abdul Shakoor were admitted to hospital in critical condition.

Some 20 children were not in a position to be taken to hospital, hence their relatives took doctors to their villages.

Ms Reshma Jagirani. 30, died in civil hospital Khairpur whereas her brother was admitted due to gastroenteritis.

Irfan Khaskheli, 10, died in a private hospital in Kotdiji on Monday night.

Some 20 patients were brought to the civil hospital Khairpur on Monday due to shortage of medicines and later were taken to Sukkur and other private hospitals.

INJURED: Three persons were injured in an exchange of fire between two groups over an old enmity here late on Sunday evening in village Hyder Chang, taluka Faiz Ganj.

Injured Gulab Khan, Zaheer Hussain and Allah Ditto were taken to RHC Faiz Ganj.

Later, Gulab Khan was referred to Nawabshah hospital in a critical condition.

DUSTSTORM: A dust storm followed by rain hit upper Sindh, including Khairpur district, on Sunday evening.

It was raining throughout the night since Sunday evening without any interval.

The rain paralysed the life in Khairpur city and many towns. People faced hardships after power failure.

The heavy rain also hit the cotton crop which is in initial stage.

The animal husbandry department has cancelled the leaves of employees and announced emergency in the district.

All animal hospitals have been directed to work as relief centres round the clock.
