Girls excel in Multan

MULTAN, Aug 27: Girls bagged seven of the top 10 positions in the BA,BSc annual examinations 2006 conducted by the Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU).

The results announced on Sunday showed that five of the position-holders belonged to the Government College for Women (LCW(, Multan. The overall pass percentage is 32.72.

The over top slot was taken by Muhammad Usman, a private BSC student from Multan, with 710 marks out of 800. (He also topped the science group).

Rest of the positions from this group were bagged by LCW girls — Sonia Noureen 685 marks, Ambreen Mushtaq 682, Hina Mahmood Khan 681 and Quratul Ain 678 marks.

In the Arts group, Zainab Masoom of LCW got first position with 649 marks, Ijaz Ahmad, a private student from Multan, stood second with 640 marks, Muhammad Shahid, also a private student from Jalalpur Pirwala, bagged third position by securing 631 marks. Samra Kanwal of the Princeton College, Jatoi, secured fourth position with 628 marks while Ammara Tasneem from Government College for Women, Kot Addu, remained fifth with 624 marks.

The pass percentage among girls in the both the groups was also high compared to boys’

BZU VC Prof Dr. Hayat Muhammad Awan distributed cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 7000, Rs 5000, Rs 2000, and Rs 1000, respectively, among the top five position holders in each group. He was all praise for LCW students and pricipal besides private students.

The VC announced free education for top three position-holders from both BA and BSc groups for postgraduate studies at the BZU.

Controller examinations Waqar Ahmad Qureshi said the results had been declared in time to enable students to apply for post-graduate courses in the Punjab University as well. —SHAKEEL AHMED
