KOHAT, Aug 30: The district council has unanimously approved a resolution for levying Rs 400 per oil tanker as development surcharge on production from Shakardarra oil and gas fields operated by OGDC.

The money thus raised would be spent on providing water, establishment of schools and repair of roads, the house decided.

The convener Ahmed Shujja suggested during the monthly session of the district council that the annual allocations for community council boards be increased from Rs 383,000 to Rs 404,500 which was accepted by the house.

The members allowed deduction of Rs 30,000 from each union council for their study tour of Ajmer Sharif and madressah Deoband in India.

The assistant director of the Frontier Highway Authority briefed the members about the pace of the construction of remaining portion of Rawalpindi Road and its handing over to the NHA.

The members asked him to submit the latest report about the work on Khushalgarh bridge.

The house discussed the resolutions presented by Mohammad Shakeel Haider, Habibur Rehman, councillor Hassan Bano, Malik Saleem Khan, Misbahud Din, Musarat Shafi, Najma Shabbir Niazi, Khashifullah Shah, Riazur Rehman, Fawad Khan, Zafar Iqbal and Abdur Rehman.

Later they passed them including increase in the number of Kohat tehsils, provision of Sui gas to remaining areas of the district, repair of roads, imposition of development charges for increasing the income.

The house approved a resolution moved by Abdur Rehman for imposing fine of Rs 1,000 on nazims who come late at the council meetings.
