NAWABSHAH, Aug 30: Members of the district council have urged the Sindh government to declare Nawabshah district as a calamity-hit area and provide funds for rain-affected people.

The session of the district council continued on second day at the Pir Qurban Ali hall. The meeting was presided over by convener Abdul Haq Jamali.

Members, including Syed Munir Shah, Jam Feroze Unnar, Ghulam Mustafa Soomro and Khair Mohammad Mahar, highlighted the loss which occurred due to torrential rain in the district.

The council passed a unanimous resolution demanding the Sindh government to declare Nawabshah as calamity-hit area.

Convener Abdul Haq Jamali assured the council that the Sindh government would be moved to declare Nawabshah district as calamity-hit area and provide aid to people affected by heavy rains.

He informed the council that a committee had been constituted which was headed by Ghulam Hussain Chandio for assessing the loss caused by rains.

TWO BOOKED UNDER HUDOOD ORD: Two people were booked by the Nawabshah police for sexually assaulting a married woman in the Jaindo Chandio village, near Qazi Ahmed, on Wednesday.

Sher Mohammad Chandio of the Jaindo Chandio village had lodged an FIR under section 16/10 of the Zina and Hudood Ordinance stating that two persons namely Haji Soomar Chandio and Murad Jamali kidnapped his sister, Hakimzadi, wife of Ghulam Naib Chandio, raped her and escaped.

No arrest was made till the filing of this report.

BODY RECOVERED: The Taluka police recovered a body of an old woman identified as Ms Azorean Begum near the Din Mohammad Rind village on Wednesday.

The body was handed over to Delhi volunteers after post-mortem.
