HYDERABAD, Sept 1: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has stressed the need for reactivating the National Accountability Bureau at the district level.
He said that corruption had undermined social values of society and was posing a threat to the solidarity of the country.
During a meeting with Col Mohammad Razzaq Zia of the NAB (Sindh) here on Thursday, he said that organisations concerned and patriotic elements would have to launch a joint struggle to get rid of the menace of corruption.
NAB assistant directors Ashiq Hussain and Ghulam Saqlain were also present on the occasion.
He said that the district government was striving hard to eliminate corruption from the society. The nazim said that the plundered wealth of people should be recovered at all cost.
He said that some corrupt elements were creating hindrances in the way of development as they did not want fruits of development should reach the people.
He said that corrupt elements must be brought to book by the NAB. The NAB officials said that an amount of Rs300 billion of the plundered wealth had been recovered and effective steps were being taken to check the menace.
DELEGATIONS: A delegation of the Anjuman-i-Tajiran-i-Hyderabad called on the district nazim on Thursday.
The three-member delegation told the nazim problems confronting the business community.
The delegation complained about issuing of detection bills by Hesco, inordinate increase in crime and ineffective sewerage system.
The delegation said that in all business centres no proper street light system had been put in place and business activities had received a great setback due to digging of roads and streets by telephone and gas departments and Wasa.
He held out an assurance that problems confronting the business community would be resolved before the advent of Ramazan. Another delegation of the Atta Chakki Owners Association also called on the district nazim.
