SUKKUR, Sept 4: Declaring Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti a martyr, the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Sindh) has expressed solidarity with the oppressed people of Balochistan. Leaders of the party made the observation while addressing a Dastaar-e-Fazilat conference in Madressa Ashria, Rohri, late on Sunday night.

The Central Naib Amir of the JUI, Maulana Mohammad Murad Halejvi and District Ameer of Sukkur, Maulana Abdul Qayoom Halejvi, and Mufti Abdul Wahab Chachar spoke on the occasion. A resolution adopted on the occasion opposed military operations in Balochistan and Waziristan and amendment to the Hudood Ordinance.

The speakers criticised the brutal murder of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and regretted that instead of handing over his body to relatives, they buried it at their own, which was highly condemnable and against the values of Islam.

They said that the government killed Akbar Bugti for demanding rights of Baloch people and exposing the army officers who criminally assaulted Dr Shazia Khalid.

They said that Bugti’s killing was a challenge to those who claimed to be champions of human and women’s rights.

Condemning the role of MQM, they said that its mysterious silence over the death of Nawab Bugti was a proof of its hypocrisy.
