HYDERABAD, Sept 5: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has directed the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) to devise a comprehensive programme to ensure that people living in the Site area of Hyderabad face no problem of water supply or sewerage in the next monsoon season.

Presiding over a meeting in the Site area here on Monday, he said that during the recent rainfall, all departments of the district government had done a good job. However, the settlements located in the low-lying areas of the Site had faced problems due to the back flow of rainwater, he said.

He said, in order to overcome the problem, cleaning of the SRC drain from Unit No.12 to Darya Khan pumping station was under way.

He directed the Site management and Wasa to conduct a joint survey of the entire Site area and identify the water supply and sewerage problems.

People attending the meeting included Hyderabad DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed, Site chief engineer Mohammad Bux Soomro, Hyderabad Development Authority Director-General Tahir Ahmed, Wasa Managing Director Kafeel Ahmed and project director of the water supply and sewerage Abdul Maalik Khatri.

PRICE CONTROL: Hyderabad city DDO (revenue) Shahid Abdul Salam has directed shopkeepers, and fruit and vegetable merchants as well as meat sellers to display price lists of all the commodities on their shops and pushcarts irrespective of the fact that the price list has been issued by the government department concerned or their own associations and organizations.

He issued these instructions during his visit to various markets of the city taluka on Monday.

He also destroyed rotten vegetables and fruit on the spot and instructed vendors not to sell substandard items to people. He warned of strict action against those who indulged in profiteering and hoarding.

AWARDED: University of Sindh Vice Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui has awarded Blazer to a student Naseeruddin Soomro of the Centre of Pure and Applied Geology here on Tuesday who secured first position in a declamation at the Quaid-i-Azam Qaumi Conference held at the Baqai University Karachi.

About 40 public and private sector universities and institutes participated in the declamation.

The Bureau of Students Tutorial, Guidance Counselling Services and Co-curricular Activities of the University organized a ceremony to celebrate the success.

Speaking on the occasion, the vice-chancellor expressed the hope that university students would continue efforts for upholding flag of their Alma matter.

ADMISSIONS: Admissions for academic session 2007 in all disciplines of bachelors and masters programme in the University of Sindh will commence from Sept 7.

The last date for submission of admission forms has been fixed as Sept 30, said director admissions M. Saleh Rajar in a statement issued here on Monday.

Admission forms would be available at all the district headquarters of the province through the HBL branches.

He said hostel accommodation forms would also be available in all the designated HBL branches.

Interested candidates can obtain admission forms with catalogue from the HBL old campus Hyderabad and Jamshoro branches while admission forms and admit card/slip can also be downloaded from official website www.usindh.edu.pk.

EXAM FORMS: The university has announced schedule for submission of examination forms under annual examination (college side) 2006 on Tuesday.

According to announcement the university has fixed last date as Oct 4, for submission of examination forms of B.A, B.Sc, B.Com, B.S.W, B.Sc (Home Economics) Part-I and Part-II and M.A. previous and final. The University has provided revised examination forms to all Principals of affiliated Colleges. The controller further announced that after expiry of due date Rs.200/ will be charged as Late fee from October 05 to 11, Rs.500/- from October 12 to 18 and Rs.1000/ from October 19 to 25.

DATE EXTENDED: The University of Sindh has extended last date for submission of examination forms for postgraduate examinations of M.A., M.Sc and M.Com previous and final annual examination 2005 up to Sept 16, 2006, without late fee.

Late fee of Rs500 will be charged from Sept 18 to 23 and Rs1,000 from Sept 25 to 30.

SPSC: The Sindh Public Service Commission here on Monday notified that the commission will conduct interviews of medical officers for BPS-17 from Sept 9.

The secretary of the commission has advised the candidates passing the pre-interview written test to contact the commission head offices in Hyderabad, Karachi and Sukkur.
