HYDERABAD, Sept 11: Activists of the Jamaat-i-Islami held a demonstration outside the press club on Monday in protest against an alleged attempt on the life of Niamatullah Khan, the former nazim of the city district government Karachi in Latifabad.

The district president of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Maulana Abdul Waheed Qureshi said that instead of providing relief to citizens, the MQM was attacking relief caravans.

He said that when the charge of defunct Hyderabad municipal corporation was in the hands of MQM, boats were requisitioned to rescue marooned people in Latifabad, but now boats were operating in two talukas - Latifabad and Qasimabad.

He said that rain water had not been drained out to get funds from federal and provincial governments.

He said where a huge amount of Rs500 million had gone which was provided to the HDA for improvement of sewerage system.

Jamaat-i-Islami Hyderabad Amir Shaikh Shoukat Ali alleged that activists of the MQM had resorted to firing on Niamatullah Khan to prevent him from visiting affected areas.

He said that Mr Khan was not deterred and he was welcomed by affected people in unit No.2, 9 and 11.
